The European Capital of Culture title ceremony will be accompanied by a chorus from the UK

The British Council, with the support of the British High Commission, proudly participates in the Paphos 2017 title ceremony, through the Philharmonia Voices Choir.

The choir, Philharmonia Voices, from the United Kingdom will join her voice with other European musicians to mark the end of the European Capital of Culture Paphos2017. Together with the Cyprus Philharmonic Orchestra and soloists from Austria, Greece, Malta and the Netherlands, the 33 members of the choir will present the anthem of the European Union, 9 by Beethoven, a piece of the poem “Ode to Joy” by Schiller.

The official title delivery will take place on 29 December at the Marquis Theater, where Paphos2017 and Pafos will deliver the title of European Capital of Culture 2018 to the cities of Valetta (Malta) and Leeuwarden (Netherlands).

The Philharmonia Voices choir was created in 2004 by Aidan Oliver and made its debut with Bach ‘s Lunar Liturgy under Sir András Schiff. Since then the choir has established itself as one of the most in London, attracting recognition for its performances in a wide range of repertoire.
