11 killed in small plane crash in northeastern French town of Tomblaine

Tomblaine, France. Eleven people were killed when a small plane crashed in the northeastern French town of Tomblaine on Sunday, according to the local prefecture. The aircraft belonged to a parachutist school, and all those on board died.


Victims identified

The prefecture said the pilot and all 10 passengers were killed in the crash. The passengers were identified as five students and five instructors.

Crash circumstances

Yves Seguy, the regional prefect, told broadcaster BFM that the aircraft appeared to suffer damage before plunging vertically to the ground. The crash took place in a built-up area near a shopping centre.

Official response

The interior ministry said the French interior minister was on his way to the scene. Seguy said the location of the crash meant the accident could have caused additional casualties.

Prosecutor comment

The local prosecutor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
