Limassol, Cyprus. Around 13.6 kilograms of TNT have reportedly gone missing from a National Guard firing range near the Limassol district village of Kalo Chorio. An investigation has been launched, and police have been informed, according to reports on Friday.

Investigation and site visit

Newspaper Phileleftheros reported that National Guard chief Emmanuel Theodorou travelled to the firing range and that an investigation into the matter has been launched. The report said police are “aware of the incident”.

Possible explanations under review

Phileleftheros reported that “two main possibilities” are being examined: either the material has “actually disappeared”, or it was used during an exercise without being recorded as required by protocol.

Exercise postponed

The report added that an exercise due to take place at the firing range on Friday was postponed.

No response from defence ministry

The Cyprus Mail said it attempted to contact the defence ministry and received no response.
