Nicosia, Cyprus. Thirteen people were arrested for various offences during overnight police operations in urban areas on Thursday, police said. The offences included impersonation, illegal employment, failure to appear in court, arson of a motorcycle and traffic violations.
Checks and searches
According to police, 1,084 drivers and 297 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 36 premises were searched in an effort to address criminal activity, resulting in two complaints.
Traffic violations
A total of 816 complaints were made during traffic inspections for various violations. Of these, 208 involved speeding and 109 involved drivers not using their hands while driving.
Vehicle seizures and testing
Nine vehicles were seized as part of the police examinations. Police also carried out 173 alcohol tests, which resulted in 11 complaints, while two drivers tested positive in preliminary drug tests.
