Loutsa, Cyprus. A 15-year-old boy died on Friday evening when the car he was travelling in veered off the road and struck a tree in Loutsa. Two other 15-year-old boys, including the driver, remain in “Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Hospital condition and medical assessment

POEDHN President Mr. Giannakos said the two survivors suffered various injuries and trauma, but current assessments suggest their lives are not in danger. Doctors continue to monitor them and are carrying out imaging tests to rule out internal damage.

Investigation into how the crash occurred

Authorities are examining how the unlicensed minor obtained the car keys and why the vehicle reached high speeds before the collision. Preliminary reports indicate the teenage driver took his mother’s car keys without permission to drive with friends.

Reported sequence of events

According to preliminary information, the driver accelerated to high speeds, lost control, and mounted the pavement. The vehicle then followed an erratic path for several seconds before the passenger side struck a tree.

Impact details and witness accounts

The collision shattered the windscreen and ejected the front-seat passenger, who was killed at the scene. Debris was scattered across the road and skid marks were left on the tarmac.

Witnesses reported seeing the car pass at speeds of up to 120km/h on a dirt track shortly before the crash. One resident said the impact was strong enough to throw the boy clear of the car. Witnesses also reported hearing the teenage driver shouting after the collision, “What have I done, what have I done?”

What questions do you think investigators should prioritise in determining how the teenager obtained the car and why it was travelling at such speed?
