Limassol, Cyprus. A 23-year-old man was on Thursday ordered to face trial next month over two separate alleged assaults on police officers in Limassol on Tuesday and Wednesday.

First incident at shop after alarm

Police said the first incident occurred on Tuesday evening when officers were called to a shop after an alarm was triggered. The suspect was reportedly seen entering the premises holding a bottle of alcohol and showing signs of intoxication.

When officers attempted to verify his details, he allegedly attacked a female officer and later resisted arrest, during which he is said to have threatened officers with a broken bottle. Reinforcements were called before he was detained.

Police said he later injured himself while in custody by striking his head. He was taken to Limassol general hospital but refused medical examination. Two police officers were treated for minor injuries and discharged.

Second incident at property the following day

The next day, police responded to reports of a disturbance at a Limassol property involving the same individual. Officers said he shouted, threw furniture and caused concern while intoxicated.

When approached, he allegedly refused to cooperate, insulted officers and resisted arrest, striking two policemen. The officers received treatment at hospital and were discharged.
