Limassol, Cyprus. A 54-year-old man has been arrested in Cyprus under a European arrest warrant after being convicted of fraud in Greece, police said on Thursday. The offences for which he was convicted and sentenced to prison were committed between 2008 and 2009.

Police said the man was arrested in Limassol.
Circumstances unclear
A police spokesman was unable to confirm whether the man had been sentenced in absentia or the circumstances under which he left Greece and travelled to Cyprus without being detected.
Court appearance expected
The man is expected to appear before Limassol district court later on Thursday.
