Nicosia, Cyprus. Turnout in Aglandjia’s election for a new deputy-mayor reached 15.02 per cent by noon on Sunday, according to the returning officer. A total of 2,281 voters had cast ballots out of 15,182 registered voters.
Election background
The post became vacant after former deputy mayor Andreas Constantinou was elected to the House of Representatives on the Disy ticket.
Candidates
Two independent candidates are contesting the post: Prokopis Prokopiou and Andri Hadjiandreou.
Voting arrangements
A total of 26 election centres are operating across six schools. Polls closed between 12pm and 1pm and will close again at 6pm.
Result timing
The result is expected to be announced at around 8.30pm on Sunday.
