Akrotiri Spring Festival to offer nature activities and workshops at environmental education centre

Akrotiri, Cyprus. The Akrotiri Environmental Education Centre will host the Akrotiri Spring Festival on May 3, offering environmental activities, nature-learning sessions, games and craft workshops for all ages. The free event runs from 9am to 1.30pm, with registrations needed for selected activities.

Organisers

The festival is an initiative of the Curium municipality, the Akrotiri Environmental Education Centre, BirdLife Cyprus, Terra Cypria – The Cyprus Conservation Foundation, as well as the environment department and the health services of the British Bases.

Programme and registration

The day begins at 9am with a bird ringing activity. At 9.30am, teens and adults can join either a guided birdwatching tour or a Cycling and BioBlitz ride to discover the Akrotiri Forest, suitable for those above 10.

Both activities require pre-registration via an online form available on the Facebook event, Akrotiri Spring Festival.

Talks and workshops

Two activities open to all are scheduled from 9.45am to 1.30pm: the MedOnWheels event and a talk on Griffon Vultures, starting at 10am.

An art workshop for children aged 8 to 12 will take place, inspired by the migratory birds of the Akrotiri Peninsula.

Additional activities

Other activities include a QR code exploration game at the Centre, crafts for all ages and levels, and a session on the life cycle of a dragonfly and its transformation from water to air.

The programme also includes a basket-weaving workshop, a seed ball workshop and a feathers activity about how feathers help birds soar, stay safe and communicate, before the festival concludes at 1.30pm.
