Animafest Cyprus to screen literary-inspired animated films in Nicosia

Blind Vaysha

Nicosia, Cyprus. Animafest Cyprus will screen a special programme of animated films inspired by classic and contemporary literary works by European authors on Saturday in Nicosia. The event is part of the Cyprus EU Presidency’s artistic programme and will take place at the Hambis Municipal Printmaking Museum.

Programme focus and film selection

Animafest said the programme draws on European literature ranging “from Goethe to Kafka,” as well as folk legends turned into poetry and political allegories. The organisers said the selection includes internationally acclaimed works, masters of the genre, and iconoclastic voices.

Animation techniques featured

According to Animafest, the programme showcases a variety of animation techniques, including handmade traditional methods such as sand-on-glass animation, drawn animation on cells, and stop-motion puppet animation. It also includes approaches such as 3D animation imitating traditional woodcut techniques and 2D animation inspired by the printed page.

Screening times and audience

The programme is aimed at viewers of all ages, with two screenings scheduled for 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

Organisers’ remarks

Animafest said the films bring to life “frame by frame” the written word and the lyricism of poetry, while presenting independent artistic interpretations that engage in dialogue with the original works.
