Animal and meat trade representatives form new association and join Keve in Nicosia

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Pancyprian Association of Animal and Meat Trade Representatives held its founding assembly at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) building on April 30. The association also confirmed its official integration into Keve, according to an announcement released on Wednesday.

Founding and institutional integration

The establishment of the association was described as a milestone for the livestock and meat trading sector, creating an organised framework for business representation in the field of animal fattening and trade in Cyprus. The association said its integration into Keve is intended to strengthen its institutional role and improve its ability to represent the industry.

Objectives and cooperation

The association said it aims to improve coordination among animal traders and promote closer cooperation with state and local authorities, as well as other relevant organisations and associations. It added that a key priority is to safeguard and promote the interests of businesses while working to resolve challenges faced by the sector.

Supply chain role and sector challenges

Businesses operating in the field were described as a critical link in the supply chain connecting livestock farmers, slaughterhouses, supermarkets, retail outlets and catering businesses. The association said this role ensures the smooth functioning of the supply chain and maintains consistent quality in meat products available to consumers.

The announcement said the need for strong and coordinated representation has become increasingly urgent due to challenges arising from the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, which it said directly affects the operation and sustainability of the sector.

Action plan and next steps

During the founding assembly, participants presented the main pillars of the association’s action plan and held dialogue on sector priorities. The association said it aims to play a decisive role in strengthening and developing the sector and to act as a reliable and effective representative body for businesses involved in animal and meat trading.
