Anti-war demonstration planned outside Cyprus presidential palace over alleged involvement in regional conflict

Nicosia, Cyprus. Organisers said an anti-war demonstration will be held on Saturday outside the presidential palace, urging the public to protest Cyprus’ involvement in an ongoing regional conflict.

Organisers’ aims and criticisms

Organisers criticised the use of the British bases by western forces, saying it has turned the bases and surrounding areas, as well as critical national infrastructure, into potential military targets. They accused the Republic of Cyprus of complicity in the actions of the USA and Israel, and described government support as a “dangerous choice” that fuels militarisation of political and social life.

Demands on British bases and military activity

The organisers called for the abolition of the British bases and demanded their immediate non-participation in military activities.

Call for peace and support for anti-war voices

They stressed the importance of supporting anti-war voices locally, regionally and internationally, and promoting peace and cooperation among peoples.

Protest time and route

The demonstration is set to start at 3.30pm at the offices of Pasydy and proceed to the presidential palace. Participants are encouraged to join groups and individuals who oppose war and Cyprus being used as a launch point for military operations.
