Los Angeles, United States. Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny and the KPop singers of “Golden” are set to compete at the Grammys on Sunday, as the ceremony is expected to award several first-time winners. Bad Bunny is nominated for album of the year with “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” which could become the first Spanish-language winner in the category.
Album of the year contenders
Bad Bunny’s “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” is competing for album of the year, an award that went last year to Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter.” Billboard awards editor Paul Grein said the race was close between Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar, adding that Lady Gaga was also a contender.
If Lamar wins for “GNX,” he would be the first solo male rapper to take the album-of-the-year prize. Only two hip-hop acts have previously won in the category: Lauryn Hill and the duo Outkast.
Lady Gaga is competing with the album “Mayhem,” and a win would be her first in the album-of-the-year category. She has not won any of the top four Grammy prizes despite more than two decades in the music industry.
Broadcast and host
Trevor Noah is returning to host the Grammys for a sixth time, which he said will be his last time hosting the ceremony. The show will air live on CBS PSKY.O and stream on Paramount+ at 5 p.m. Los Angeles time (0100 GMT on Monday).
Bad Bunny tour and Super Bowl halftime selection
Bad Bunny did not include the continental United States in his recent concert tour, saying he feared federal agents conducting U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown would appear and arrest his fans.
His selection for the Super Bowl halftime show on February 8 drew objections from critics who argued the National Football League championship game’s entertainment should be performed in English.
Performers and nominees
Scheduled performers at the Grammys include Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, Addison Rae and all eight best new artist nominees. Producers said the show will include surprise performers and presenters.
