Larnaca, Cyprus. A 22-year-old student from Bangladesh remains missing six days after he was reportedly abducted in Larnaca and was last seen in Kofinou. Police are investigating the circumstances of his disappearance, including reported ransom demands made to his father.
Disappearance and last contact
Shahruar Ahmed Emon, who was living in Oroklini, reportedly left his home on June 12 to begin work at a nearby factory.
He later sent a friend a message with his location and also contacted his father asking for help, before all communication stopped.
Police investigation
According to Reporter, authorities have conducted checks to determine whether the student crossed to the north or left the island. No record was found in the electronic system.
Police are now examining whether he crossed to the north illegally or whether he remains in territory controlled by the Republic.
Ransom demand
The student’s father reportedly later received several calls from an unknown individual, including a demand for money in exchange for his son’s release.
