Akrotiri, Cyprus. British families living in the British Akrotiri base will remain evacuated until next Friday as a precautionary measure amid ongoing regional tensions, the bases said on Saturday.
Evacuation and accommodation
A total of 286 residents have been accommodated in hotels at the bases’ expense since Monday. The evacuees include vulnerable individuals and families.
Security measures
Further security measures were implemented within the bases following a recent decree by the Republic prohibiting the use of drones and paragliding in their territory.
Trigger for the evacuation
The bases launched an initial evacuation of Akrotiri residents and local schools after a drone attack hit the area on Monday.
Other areas under base control
The bases said there are no restrictions in place in the other areas under their control.
