Akrotiri, Cyprus. British bases authorities said they are planning a temporary dispersal of non-essential staff at the RAF Akrotiri air force base after it was hit by a drone around midnight. They said the move was a precautionary measure and urged calm among local residents.

Authorities said the temporary dispersal applies only to the RAF Akrotiri station. They said they understand concerns in the wider British bases community and noted that some residents had decided to leave Akrotiri village, but added they do not believe this is necessary.

Other British stations to remain open

Authorities said all other British stations on Cyprus will remain open as normal.

Incident details and guidance to personnel

Personnel were informed shortly after 1am that a small drone had impacted the airfield and that authorities were responding. Authorities said there were no casualties, but that minor damage was caused.

Authorities instructed personnel to remain in place and await further instruction, warning there may be additional impact. Explosion and siren sounds were heard in nearby Limassol.
