London, United Kingdom. Average prices at British retailers rose by 0.9% year on year this month, the smallest increase since December 2025, according to the British Retail Consortium.
Summer promotions
The BRC said the men’s soccer World Cup prompted supermarket discounts on alcohol and snacks.
BRC Chief Executive Helen Dickinson said retailers had competed to limit price rises through summer promotions across food and other goods.
Some clothing and footwear retailers were also discounting summer items, she added.
