Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus. Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides concluded a tour of hospitals across the island on Tuesday with a visit to Polis Chrysochous hospital, saying the state has a duty to provide health services to all people regardless of how remote their area of residence is.

Plans for a new hospital

Charalambides said Polis Chrysochous hospital was the “last but not least” stop in his series of visits and referred to plans for a new hospital intended to meet the needs of the wider area. He added that the cabinet has recently decided to expropriate 21,000m² of land for the construction of the new hospital.

Assessing interim needs

The minister said the meeting was held to exchange views on staffing, infrastructure and equipment needs for the existing hospital until the new facility is completed. He said all issues raised during the meeting will be examined in cooperation with the state health services (Okypy).
