Christodoula March 2026 to be held across Cyprus on April 18, anti-cancer society says

The march commemorated the 20km journey made by cancer sufferer Christodoula, who in 1974 left her home in Famagusta as a refugee, carrying nothing but her suitcase, and walked to Sotira, where she died of her illness

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Christodoula March 2026 will take place on Saturday, April 18, simultaneously in all cities across Cyprus, the Cyprus anti-cancer society said. The march will begin at 3.30pm in all towns and cities.

Campaign marks 51st year

In a statement, the organisation described the march as the largest and most recognisable cancer awareness and support campaign on the island, entering its 51st year. It said the march continues to unite society around the values of solidarity, contribution and human presence.

April fundraising and awareness activities

April has been designated as a month dedicated to the work of the organisation, with a series of fundraising drives and awareness activities planned nationwide. Fundraising efforts will begin with a street collection on April 2, followed by additional campaigns and events throughout the month.

Services supported by proceeds

Proceeds from the march and related activities will contribute to maintaining and expanding the society’s services, including inpatient care at the Arodafnousa palliative care centre, nationwide home medical and nursing care, psychological and social support services, as well as prevention and awareness programmes.

Call for participation

The society’s executive director, Maria Ioannidou, highlighted the importance of public participation, saying the essence of the march lies in showing support and solidarity to those in need. She said the Christodoula March is a reminder that through collective action and contribution, society can stand by those who need it with respect, care and humanity.
