Christodoulides says investigations continue in ‘Sandy’ case, denies executive role

President Nikos Christodoulides

Nicosia, Cyprus. President Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday that investigative procedures in the ‘Sandy’ case are continuing and stressed that the executive branch has no role in the process.

President’s comments on investigation

Speaking to journalists in Nicosia, Christodoulides said “the procedures regarding the Sandy case are progressing” when asked about the status of the investigation. He said the executive branch, and “in particular the president,” is not involved in investigative procedures, responding to questions about the case, the involvement of Europol and the request for FBI involvement.

Christodoulides added that investigations are proceeding based on statements by responsible authorities and said institutions are operating under relevant procedures, with developments proceeding as the police have reported.

Allegations and evidence under review

The case centres on allegations made public by journalist Makarios Drousiotis, including claims of serious criminal conduct, including sexual offences, corruption and the existence of an organised ‘Rosicrucian brotherhood’ involving public figures acting as a fifth estate.

The material includes a series of messages, audio recordings and videos attributed to a woman referred to as ‘Sandy’. Police investigations are ongoing, with authorities examining a large tome of digital evidence.

Reports indicate that more than 3,000 files, including images and video recordings, are under review as part of the inquiry. Investigators are also assessing claims of financial transactions allegedly linked to attempts to suppress information, including transfers said to total hundreds of thousands of euros.

International assistance

International assistance has been requested as part of the process.
