Christodoulides to attend European Council meeting in Brussels

Brussels, Belgium. President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to Brussels on Thursday to take part in the two-day European Council meeting. The meeting will be the last held under Cyprus’ EU Council presidency.


Presidency review and meetings

During the meeting, Christodoulides will present a review of the work carried out during the presidency. He will also hold a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costas, and is scheduled to meet them separately.

Additional events on Thursday

He will deliver an address at the opening of the foreign ministry’s “Cyprus Insula” exhibition before taking part in the European People’s Party summit, which will focus on preparations for the European Council meeting. The summit will be preceded by a signing ceremony for the joint declaration of the council, the EU Parliament and the European Commission.

European Council agenda

Christodoulides will also participate in European Council discussions on Ukraine and attend a working dinner of EU leaders focusing on competitiveness.

Friday schedule

On Friday, he is scheduled to attend a meeting on migration and then participate in European Council proceedings, during which he will present the progress achieved under the Cyprus presidency regarding the multiannual financial framework. He will also attend a working lunch of EU leaders to discuss the situation in the Middle East.
