Cinderella pantomime to be staged in Limassol with spring performances

Limassol, Cyprus. Premiere Group will stage Cinderella: The Pantomime this weekend with two performances at Polemidia Municipal Theatre. The production is scheduled for March 7-8 and is aimed at audiences of all ages.

Spring timing and rehearsals

Assistant director Sharon Chorbadjian said the decision to stage the pantomime in spring was made to avoid the busy Christmas period. She said the group chose to wait for a quieter period after Carnival, with final dress rehearsals taking place in the days leading up to the shows.

Story and themes

The production presents the Cinderella story with song, dance and comedy, alongside a love story between Cinderella and a prince. Chorbadjian said the story’s elements involving forced servitude remain a reality in modern society and said she felt the difficult aspects should be faced directly.

Cast and community production

The English-language production features a 22-member cast ranging in age from 10 to 70, with volunteers from different backgrounds and a creative team of multiple nationalities. Eleven-year-old cast member Anna McCavery, who plays one of the mice, said it was her first time on stage and that she enjoyed dancing, meeting new people, and preparing in costumes.

The pantomime will be performed at Polemidia Municipal Theatre, Limassol, on Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 5pm.
