CITEA warns of sharp rises in RAM and tech component prices, urges measures to protect projects

Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nicodemos Damianou (Centre) meeting with CITEA

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Cyprus Information Technology Enterprises Association (CITEA) on Friday warned of sharp increases in RAM prices and other critical technology components after meeting Deputy Minister Nicodemos Damianou.

Market instability and project risk

CITEA said rapid growth in artificial intelligence, combined with geopolitical developments and supply chain pressures, has created instability and unpredictable pricing across the technology sector. The association said the market has reached a critical turning point, with companies required to deliver projects under extreme uncertainty, continuous price increases and reduced predictability.

Calls for immediate adjustments

The association said it has taken immediate intervention measures by presenting the scale of the issue and concrete proposals aimed at addressing the situation. CITEA said the proposals are intended to avoid project delays and protect the sustainability of the sector.

“Without immediate adjustment of the framework, projects are at risk of delays or cancellations,” CITEA said. It added that companies are avoiding participation in tenders and that financial risk in the sector is increasing significantly.

Proposal for European price index

CITEA submitted a proposal to create a European IT hardware price index to improve transparency and predictability in the market. The association said the index is intended to support a fairer distribution of risk across Europe.
