Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Columbia Group president and chief executive Mark O’Neil said the company is closely monitoring the recent escalation in the Gulf region under established security and business continuity protocols. He said crew safety remains the company’s top priority.

Enhanced procedures and operational oversight

In a statement shared on his personal social media platform on Wednesday, O’Neil said that “the safety of our crews remains our absolute priority.”

He said vessels operate under enhanced procedures, including live monitoring through the company’s control room to enable real-time assessment of navigation plans and risk exposure. O’Neil added that “no operational decisions are taken without thorough evaluation and confirmation of crew safety.”

Contingency planning and past disruptions

O’Neil said the company has contingency plans in place at sea and ashore, including for its offices in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

He said these measures have been strengthened over time in response to previous geopolitical disruptions, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and earlier Houthi activity.

Contacts with authorities

While saying the current situation represents an escalation, O’Neil said regional instability has long been factored into the group’s operational planning.

He said the company remains in close contact with relevant authorities and security advisers and will continue taking steps to protect its people and operations.
