Nicosia, Cyprus. Costas Gavrielides, the former president of ACCEPT LGBTI Cyprus and a longtime advocate for equality and human rights, has died.
Roles in equality and diversity advocacy
Gavrielides’ work was closely linked to the promotion of equality, human rights and respect for diversity in Cyprus.
He served as adviser to the president of the Republic of Cyprus on the Promotion of Multiculturalism, Acceptance and Respect for Diversity from May 2018.
Leadership at Accept – LGBTI Cyprus
Gavrielides co-founded Accept – LGBTI Cyprus, the first officially recognised LGBTI organisation in the Republic of Cyprus.
He became its first elected president and held the role from May 2012 until December 2017.
