Nicosia, Cyprus. A technical problem at the Customs Department has disrupted the collection of customs duties and the subsequent release of goods, prompting temporary fallback procedures.
Temporary payment procedures
The department said businesses and the public may make payments in cash or by cheque. A receipt will be issued to allow the release of goods.
For payments made by bank transfer or credit card, the accounts department will issue a stamped receipt, which must be presented to receive goods.
Payment deferral process
Businesses or their agents using the payment deferral process must contact customs headquarters on 22601708 for instructions on releasing their goods.
The Customs Department apologised for the inconvenience and said efforts were under way to resolve the problem and restore the system.
