Cyprus and Egypt review 2024 labour mobility deal on employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus

Cairo, Egypt. Cyprus and Egypt reviewed the implementation of a 2024 labour mobility agreement covering the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus, Cyprus Labour Minister Marinos Mousiouttas said following meetings in Cairo.


Official visit and bilateral talks

According to a statement by the Labour Ministry, Mousiouttas visited Cairo from April 20 to 22, leading a delegation and meeting Egyptian Labour Minister Hassan Radat El Sayed. The ministers discussed the memorandum of understanding signed in June 2024, which concerns the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus and, according to the statement, marks an important step in bilateral relations.

Focus on implementation and workers’ rights

Mousiouttas said the memorandum provides a comprehensive and reliable framework for safe, legal and mutually beneficial labour mobility, while helping address the needs of the Cypriot labour market with full respect for workers’ rights and dignity. He added that Cyprus attaches particular importance to the substantive implementation of the agreement, which the ministry said strengthens cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

Commitment to the agreement

Mousiouttas said Cyprus would make every effort to ensure the memorandum is fully and effectively implemented, with the aim of delivering mutually beneficial results. He said Cyprus remains a reliable partner, committed to honouring its obligations and deepening its strategic relationship with Egypt.

Visit to vocational training centre

The two ministers, accompanied by their delegations, visited the Al-Hegaz Vocational Training Centre, where they were briefed on programmes offered by the Egyptian Ministry of Labour.

Invitation to Cyprus

Mousiouttas invited his Egyptian counterpart to Cyprus, which the ministry described as a reciprocal gesture of hospitality and a further step in labour cooperation between the two countries.
