Cyprus and Ethiopia seek deeper business ties at investment forum in Nicosia

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus and Ethiopia moved to deepen business ties at the Ethio–Cyprus Investment Forum 2026 held in Nicosia. Investors, officials and business leaders discussed opportunities across sectors including agribusiness, energy and shipping.

Forum organisation and participation

The high-level forum was organised by the Embassy of Ethiopia to Cyprus in collaboration with the Honorary Consul of Ethiopia to Cyprus on March 13. It brought together entrepreneurs, diplomats, institutional representatives and senior government officials from both countries.

Sectors highlighted for cooperation

Participants examined prospects for cooperation in agribusiness, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, energy and renewable resources, information and communication technologies, tourism and hospitality, infrastructure and construction, shipping and maritime services, as well as financial and professional services.

Opening remarks and official addresses

Opening remarks were delivered by Harry Anagnostaras-Adams, Honorary Consul of Ethiopia to Cyprus. Addresses followed from Ethiopian Ambassador to Cyprus Demitu Hambisa Bonsa and Stelios Makriyiannis, head of the Africa Department at Cyprus’ foreign ministry.

Investment priorities and panel discussion

Representatives of the Ethiopian Investment Commission outlined the country’s investment priorities, focusing on strategic sectors, reforms and incentives intended to attract international investors. A panel discussion between Ethiopian and Cypriot stakeholders then focused on concrete partnership and collaboration opportunities.

Broader bilateral ties

The forum was described as another step in efforts to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between the two countries, and to open new channels for trade, investment and wider business cooperation. Anagnostaras-Adams said the forum reflected a shared commitment to stronger ties and was helping pave the way for meaningful partnerships, sustainable investment, and long-term economic cooperation based on mutual respect and common interests.
