Cyprus building permits jump 76.9% in January as property sales rise in April

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded a sharp rise in building permits issued in January, indicating an expansion in construction activity. Property sales also increased in April, according to official data.


Building permits and construction pipeline

A total of 789 building permits were authorised in January, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat). The total value of the permits reached €445.2 million, and the total covered area amounted to 346,700 square metres.
The permits provide for the construction of 1,755 dwelling units.

Year-on-year increases

Compared with January 2025, the number of permits rose by 76.9 per cent. The total value increased by 92.9 per cent, while the total area rose by 82.5 per cent.
The number of dwelling units recorded the largest increase, climbing by 109.4 per cent year-on-year.

Property sales in April

Property sales across Cyprus rose by 15 per cent year-on-year in April to 1,611, compared with 1,404 in April 2025, according to data from the Department of Lands and Surveys.
This followed an 18 per cent increase in March, with demand described as resilient despite regional instability linked to the Middle East.
