Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ Deputy Ministry of Tourism confirmed the launch of regular direct flights between Kazakhstan and Cyprus, marking the first direct air connection between the two countries. Flights are scheduled to begin in early June 2026 and will link Larnaca airport with Astana and Almaty.

New route and schedule

The ministry said the development is of historic significance, as Cyprus will be directly connected with Kazakhstan for the first time.

The route will be operated by Air Astana. The schedule includes two flights per week from Astana every Tuesday and Saturday, and two flights per week from Almaty every Thursday and Sunday.

Government comments on tourism and ties

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis said that opening new markets in the tourism sector is a government priority. He described the launch of direct flights from Kazakhstan as a success and said he is certain it will benefit Cyprus’ tourism sector and, over time, other sectors.

Koumis added that from June 2026, Larnaca airport will become one of the very few Mediterranean airports directly connected with Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan’s role in Central Asia

Koumis said Kazakhstan is the largest economy in Central Asia and not merely a new tourism market for Cyprus, adding that it could develop into a strong market for Cyprus’ tourism sector over time and an additional destination for Cypriots.

He said Cyprus’ responsibility is to provide excellent hospitality to Kazakh visitors and to forge closer ties in the tourism sector.
