Larnaca, Cyprus. A 28-year-old Azerbaijani man and his 27-year-old Estonian partner arrested in Cyprus over terrorism allegations have been deported to Estonia, local media reported on Friday. The pair had been held for two weeks after being detained on suspicion of monitoring and photographing Israeli properties.

Arrest and custody

The two were arrested on February 27 on suspicion of terrorism after allegedly monitoring and photographing Israeli properties in Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos. They were subsequently remanded in prison custody by a district court, and their detention order was later extended before they were deported on Thursday.

Deportation to Estonia

According to Philenews, the aliens and migration service brought the two to Larnaca airport on Thursday, from where they boarded a plane to Estonia.

Police statements

Soon after the pair were detained, police spokesman Vyron Vyronas said authorities had limited information on whether the suspects had received external assistance or had associates in Cyprus. He said police had not found evidence that the two were acting on behalf of foreign intelligence services.

Media report citing police sources

Citing police sources, Phile reported that “confidential information” presented to the authorities indicated the 28-year-old was an Iranian agent guided by the Revolutionary Guards. The report said he had travelled to Iran twice in 2025 and was photographed taking pictures of buildings of interest to Israel in Paphos, and later travelled to Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos with the 27-year-old.
