Cyprus follows 2025 tourism roadmap as arrivals and revenue rise, president says

Nicosia, Cyprus. President Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday that the government is implementing its 2025 roadmap to establish Cyprus as a year-round tourist destination, while promoting alternative forms of tourism and supporting remote areas. He said tourism’s contribution to the economy rose to 14 per cent in 2025 from 12.8 per cent in 2023.

Tourism roadmap and priorities

Addressing the annual meeting of the Cyprus Hoteliers Association (Pasyxe), Christodoulides said the government’s plan includes clear aims and priorities to develop alternative forms of tourism, highlight Cyprus’ nature, culture and people, and rejuvenate remote areas.

Arrivals and revenue growth

He said tourist arrivals have increased by 41.6 per cent since 2022, while tourism revenue rose by 51.5 per cent over the same period.

According to the president, 2025 was a record year, with 4.5 million arrivals and €3.7 billion in tourism revenue.

Public-private cooperation and connectivity

Christodoulides said the results were due to cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as improvements in key areas including air connectivity and stronger relations with strategic partners and countries.

He said one current goal is to achieve connectivity with India, while flights to Kazakhstan have recently started.

Regional crisis and support measures

The president said 2026 had started well for tourism, but momentum was affected by the regional crisis.

He said efforts are continuing to restore a sense of safety for travellers and that hoteliers have received targeted support measures made possible by what he described as responsible fiscal policy.

“Today, evaluating the data so far, we can say that, under the circumstances, the losses … remain manageable,” he said.

Extending the tourist season

Christodoulides said efforts are being made to extend the tourist period until November to offset losses incurred in March and April.

He also said Pasyxe, which is marking 90 years of contribution to tourism and the economy, understands better than anyone that tourism is a sector subject to continuous change and development.
