Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus is expected to receive above-normal rainfall over the next two weeks, the climate watch advisory group of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said on Friday. The forecast covers March 19 to 31.
Rainfall outlook and probabilities
Weekly precipitation amounts are expected to range between 25 and 75mm, with higher totals possible in exposed areas. The probability of above-normal rainfall exceeds 90 per cent in the first week and 70-90 per cent in the second.
Potential impacts
The rainfall may temporarily improve soil moisture and hydrological conditions, but intense rainfall over short periods could cause localised flooding.
Water reserves remain low
The forecast comes as water reserves in Cyprus remain critically low after prolonged drought. Officials said rational water use remains essential because the expected precipitation is insufficient to restore dam levels fully.
Will you reduce your water use even if rainfall increases in the short term?
