Nicosia, Cyprus. The government said it intends to appoint an independent investigator to examine allegations of abuse of power made against former president Nicos Anastasiades in a report by the anti-corruption authority.
Government decision
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said on Wednesday, after the cabinet meeting, that cabinet intends to proceed with the appointment.
He said the appointment will be made after the necessary institutional procedures are completed.
Official position
Letymbiotis said the government is determined to address corruption and that its commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, and public trust in institutions is a given.
