Cyprus hosts 24,230 displaced Ukrainians under temporary protection, Eurostat data show

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus hosted 24,230 displaced Ukrainians under temporary protection as of January 31, Eurostat data released on Tuesday show. The figure placed Cyprus fourth among EU member states in beneficiaries relative to population.


Cyprus figures and change from December

The total corresponded to 24.7 people per 1,000 inhabitants, down by 1,235 people, or 4.8 per cent, since the end of December 2025.

EU totals and leading host countries

Across the EU, 4.38 million Ukrainians who fled after the Russian invasion were under temporary protection, an increase of 23,110 people, or 0.5 per cent, compared to December 2025. Germany hosted 1.26 million, followed by Poland with 965,990 and the Czech Republic with 397,185.

Beneficiaries relative to population

By proportion, the Czech Republic led with 36.4 people per thousand, followed by Poland at 26.5 and Slovakia at 25.8. The EU average stood at 9.7 per thousand.

Profile of beneficiaries

Ukrainian citizens accounted for 98.4 per cent of beneficiaries in the EU. Adult women represented 43.5 per cent, minors 30.3 per cent, and adult men 26.1 per cent.

Legal basis and extension of status

Eurostat said the figures are based on the EU temporary protection mechanism under Council Executive Decision 2022/382. The European Council extended the status on June 13, 2025 to cover arrivals from March 4, 2026 to March 4, 2027.
