Cyprus hotel sector reports stable bookings despite regional security incidents

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ hotel sector is reporting stable bookings following recent security incidents linked to the conflict with Iran, according to the hoteliers association. The association said it has not seen disruption from international or domestic travellers.

Hoteliers association says no cancellations reported

Speaking to the Cyprus Mail on Tuesday, association president Thanos Michaelides said the sector was closely monitoring developments but had so far seen no disruption.

“At this stage, there are no cancellations and no indications of panic,” Michaelides said.

He added that “Cyprus has proven many times that it is a resilient destination, even when the region is going through difficult periods.”

Coordination with authorities and continued operations

Michaelides said hotels remain in constant coordination with tourism authorities and relevant state bodies, and that clear communication and preparedness have been key to maintaining confidence among visitors and partners abroad.

“The situation is being managed calmly and professionally,” he said, adding: “For now, operations continue as normal.”

Incidents draw attention and economists warn on potential impact

Michaelides’ comments came amid attention following drone activity and a strike at the British bases, incidents that have drawn international media coverage and raised the possibility of economic fallout, particularly for tourism.

Economists said it was too early to assess the full economic impact of the unfolding conflict. Marios Zachariades, a professor at the University of Cyprus, said on Monday that prolonged instability could affect sentiment among tourists and investors, even if Cyprus is not a target.
