Cyprus industrial output stable in May as euro area declines

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’s seasonally adjusted industrial production was unchanged in May 2026, while output declined across the euro area and the European Union, according to Eurostat.

The country recorded annual industrial production growth of 2.5 per cent in May.


Monthly performance

Industrial production in Cyprus remained stable from April to May, following monthly growth of 0.1 per cent in April 2026.

By comparison, industrial production fell by 0.2 per cent in the euro area and by 0.1 per cent across the EU in May compared with April.

Annual trend

Cyprus’s industrial production increased by 2.5 per cent year on year in May, matching the annual growth recorded in March and following an increase of 1.5 per cent in April.

In the euro area, industrial production declined by 1.2 per cent from May 2025, while EU output fell by 0.3 per cent.

Sector data

In the euro area, energy production rose by 2.2 per cent in May, while capital goods output increased by 0.3 per cent. Production of intermediate goods declined by 0.3 per cent and durable consumer goods output fell by 1.1 per cent.

Across the EU, energy production increased by 2.0 per cent, while intermediate goods production decreased by 0.1 per cent.

Member state declines

Among member states reporting data for May, Ireland recorded the largest monthly decline in industrial production, at 5.2 per cent. Malta followed with a 3.7 per cent decrease, while Lithuania recorded a decline of 3.0 per cent.
