Cyprus inflation rises 0.5% annually in January 2026 as monthly prices dip 0.3%

Nicosia, Cyprus. Inflation in Cyprus recorded mild annual growth in January 2026, while consumer prices edged slightly lower on a monthly basis, according to the state statistical service, Cystat. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose 0.5% year on year and fell 0.3% month on month.


HICP level

The HICP stood at 99.98 units in January 2026, down from 100.28 units in December 2025.

Annual changes by category

The strongest annual increases were recorded in restaurants and accommodation services, up 4.8%, followed by educational services at 3.7% and recreation, sports and culture at 3.2%. Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 3%, while health and insurance services recorded marginal growth.

Notable annual decreases were observed in clothing and footwear, down 7%, transport, down 2.45%, and information and communication, down 1.97%.

Monthly changes by category

Comparing January 2026 with December 2025, clothing and footwear recorded the largest movement, declining by 12.1%, while food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 3.5%. Transport fell by 1.33% and information and communication declined by 1.67%, alongside a small drop in furnishings and household equipment.

Changes by economic origin

By economic origin, agricultural goods recorded the strongest annual increase, up 8.2%, while services rose by 3.27%. Electricity and water decreased by 6.5% and petroleum products fell by 6.1%, while industrial goods excluding petroleum products also declined slightly.
