The Cyprus Institute is participating in the Pre-TECT scientific project funded by the European Union and gathering international researcher team.

The programme is aimed to help researchers understand dust movement in the region, as well as monitor air quality by examining clouds, aerosols, and trace gases. Researchers will use drones to observe the atmosphere, the Cyprus Institute also offered its airstrip on the Troodos foothills in Orounda village.

The project is important for Cyprus since the island is experiencing dust storms quite often and dry climate, high temperatures, as well as environmental pollution only make the situation worse.
