Cyprus launches online residence permit renewal service for third-country nationals

Deputy minister of migration Nicholas Ioannides

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus has launched a new digital service for the renewal of residence permits for third-country nationals, the deputy ministry of migration and the deputy ministry of innovation said on Monday. The platform enables eligible foreign nationals legally residing in Cyprus to submit renewal applications online with supporting documents.

Who can use the platform

The service is available to eligible foreign nationals, as well as employers submitting applications on behalf of staff and authorised representatives such as law firms and organisations.

Categories covered

The system processes renewal applications for several categories, including permits for salaried and domestic work, foreign company employees, family reunification and long-term residence.

Authorities said the service is limited to renewals and does not cover first-time applications.

Functions of the system

Users can complete and submit applications electronically, upload documents, track application progress, pay fees online and choose a service point for later steps, including permit collection.

In-person attendance remains necessary for some procedures, including biometric data collection and signature verification.

Government objectives

The government said the digital system is intended to streamline procedures and reduce delays.

Once fully implemented, the platform is expected to handle about 73 per cent of renewal applications in the covered categories and up to 25 per cent of all residence permit applications, including both new and renewal cases.

Broader digital transformation

The initiative forms part of wider efforts to modernise public services and improve efficiency through digital transformation in migration management.
