Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus is strengthening its role in European gaming regulation, the Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission said on Tuesday as it launched the national awareness campaign “Take Control” to promote responsible gambling and informed decision-making.
Regulatory progress
CGCA chairman Pieris Chourides said the commission had made significant progress over the past two years in supervision, transparency, institutional development and international engagement.
European recognition
Cyprus’s role was recognised through its selection to host the annual conference of the Gaming Regulators European Forum. Chourides said the selection highlighted the CGCA’s contributions to modern regulatory practices in Europe.
Oversight and player protection
The commission said it had intensified efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight, responsible gaming measures, anti-money laundering controls and cooperation with European and international organisations.
Executive director Charis Tsangarides said the commission remained focused on player protection and maintaining a strong regulatory framework for the casino sector.
Metron funding programme
The commission also introduced the Metron funding programme to support initiatives aimed at preventing problematic gambling and improving public protection through evidence-based interventions.
