Cyprus met office issues yellow warning for storms, hail and strong winds

Nicosia, Cyprus. The met office issued a yellow warning on Tuesday for storms, hail and strong winds, in effect from 9.00 pm tonight until 6.00 pm tomorrow.

Warning timeframe and expected conditions

Authorities said conditions indicate isolated strong storms ahead, with heavy rainfall expected throughout and hail possible in Troodos. “Isolated strong storms are expected to affect the island, with the greatest intensity in Troodos and Nicosia after noon,” the statement said.

Areas expected to be affected

The storms are expected to affect Limassol and Larnaca tonight and tomorrow morning, before spreading to Troodos and Nicosia during midday and afternoon.

Advice to residents and drivers

Residents were advised to take precautions, particularly in exposed locations, and to secure outdoor objects. The met office also urged drivers to exercise caution, as heavy rainfall and strong winds could create hazardous road conditions.

Recent weather context

The warning follows unsettled weather over the past week, with similar storms causing localised flooding and travel disruptions.
