Cyprus motor vehicle registrations rise 6.7% in January 2026 as hybrids gain share

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded an increase in motor vehicle registrations in January 2026, according to figures released on Friday by the statistical service (Cystat). Total registrations rose 6.7% year-on-year, while hybrid and electric vehicles increased their share.


Overall registrations

Total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,350 in January 2026, compared with 4,077 in January 2025.

Passenger saloon cars

Passenger saloon registrations rose 4.5% to 3,317 from 3,173 in the same month a year earlier. Of these, 1,294 (39%) were new and 2,023 (61%) were used. Rental saloon cars fell 22.8% to 159.

Fuel type trends

The share of petrol-powered passenger cars declined to 35.8% from 42.5% a year earlier, while diesel increased to 8.4% from 8.1%. Electric cars rose to 6.9% from 5.6%, and hybrid vehicles increased to 48.8% from 43.8%.

Other vehicle categories

Motor coaches and buses increased to 23 from 7 in January 2025.
