Cyprus MPs to take home about €5,500 a month, official data shows

Nicosia, Cyprus. The 56 MPs elected or re-elected to parliament will take home about €5,500 a month, while the House president earns significantly more, according to official data released on Monday.


MP pay and allowances

State treasury data show that the gross annual salary of an MP is €56,310, or €4,331 a month, excluding allowances. When allowances, cost-of-living adjustments and secretarial support are included, total gross annual earnings rise to €99,612.

After deductions and taxes, net annual earnings for MPs come to €66,684, which works out at €5,466 a month.

House president salary

The House president receives a gross monthly salary of €8,715. With allowances added, gross earnings rise to €11,456. After deductions and taxes, net monthly earnings are €7,461.

Highest-paid state officials

Although the House president is the second most senior state official, the post is not the second highest paid. The best-paid state officials are the attorney-general, the deputy attorney-general, the president of the supreme court and supreme court judges, who earn €9,207 net a month.

The president of the Republic earns €9,145 net a month, while the president of the appeals court and appeals court judges earn €8,331.
