Cyprus police arrest 12 in overnight operation and issue 650 traffic fines

Nicosia, Cyprus. Police said 12 people were arrested on Monday night for offences including theft, drug possession, possession of offensive instruments, domestic violence and illegal stay in the Republic.


Arrests and inspections

In a statement, police said that during the operation a total of 953 vehicles were stopped and 1,276 individuals were checked.
Officers also carried out 24 inspections of premises aimed at tackling illegal activity, which resulted in three reports.

Traffic enforcement results

During traffic enforcement checks, police issued 650 fines for various violations, while 22 cases of traffic offences are under investigation.
A total of 20 vehicles were also impounded as part of the operation.
Police said 141 of the reports concerned speeding offences.

Drug and alcohol testing

In addition, two drivers tested positive in preliminary drug-driving tests, while one driver tested positive for driving under the influence of alcohol.
A total of four drug-driving checks and 86 alcohol tests were carried out, police added.
