Cyprus police arrest 13 in overnight crime prevention operation

Nicosia, Cyprus. Police arrested 13 people during overnight operations across Cyprus aimed at preventing crime, maintaining public order and improving public safety, authorities said on Monday.


Checks and arrests

Officers stopped 586 vehicles and checked 730 drivers and passengers during the operation. They also inspected 40 premises and issued 12 reports.

Those arrested are suspected of offences including illegal residence and employment, possession of knives, drugs or stolen property, drunkenness, disturbing the peace, unpaid court fines and serious traffic violations.

Traffic enforcement

Traffic police issued 286 citations, including 156 for speeding. Ten traffic cases remain under investigation and eight vehicles were seized.

Officers conducted 328 alcohol tests, with three drivers testing positive. Two roadside drug tests were also carried out, and both were positive.

Continued operations

Police said targeted patrols and enforcement operations would continue daily across the island.
