Cyprus police open investigation into online domestic violence allegations involving Paphos mayor’s wife

Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos

Paphos, Cyprus. Police have launched an ex officio investigation into online information alleging the battering of Louisa Andreou, wife of Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos. Andreou has denied the allegations, calling them “malice and gossip” driven by political motives.

Police investigation

Police spokesman Christodoulos Konsolos told state media that police began investigations on Sunday into online information concerning domestic violence. He said the information included medical reports, which would be examined by the authorities.

Andreou denies allegations

In a statement posted on social media on Saturday, Andreou described the claims as a coordinated attack against her family aimed at harming her husband’s political career. She said she wanted to protect her family from “malice and gossip,” stated she was not a victim of violence, and said she had been in a harmonious marriage for 20 years.

Call to keep politics away from family

Andreou described Phedonos as a “wonderful man” and called for political games to be kept away from her family.
