Cyprus police seek Ioanna Photiou in investigation into data, fake news and harassment offences

Nicosia, Cyprus. Police said on Wednesday they are looking for social media personality Ioanna Photiou, also known online as Annie Alexui, to facilitate investigations into alleged offences under the personal data processing act, publication of fake news and harassment. Photiou responded on social media, saying she is “not hiding”.

Police investigation and allegations

Police said the alleged offences were committed between January and October last year in Paphos and Limassol. Phileleftheros reported that Photiou lives in Russia.

Photiou’s response to wanted notice

In a social media post reacting to her own wanted notice, Photiou said she is “not hiding” and published a British telephone number. She later posted a video repeating that she is “not hiding” and said she has given police her telephone number “countless times”.

“Call me whenever you want. These warrants have been out for how long? You did not put them out now. It is just that the police have decided now that they want to publicise them. Do you know how many warrants have been put out against me? I am also speaking with the police in Nicosia,” she said.

She added that police decided on Wednesday to publicise the arrest warrants because “the videos I have put out have got so, so, so much popularity”.

“Go and f*ck yourselves. Carry on as you were. The last time I checked, I had 13 warrants out against me. If you want, make that 53,” she said.

Social media activity and background

Photiou’s Facebook account is named Justice or Death – Annie Alexui, and she says she uses the platform for the purpose of “exposing Cyprus corruption and my paedo family”.

She had been in a relationship with Alexis Mavromichalis, commonly known as Alexoui, who was shot dead at the age of 45 on the balcony of his apartment in Nicosia in 2023. Analysis of the bullet wound showed it was fired from a distance of around 50 metres, striking him in the abdomen from below.
