Cyprus police seize 233.5kg of drugs and weapons in Strovolos raid, two arrested

Strovolos, Cyprus. Cyprus police said about 230,000 doses of narcotics were “withdrawn from society” following a major seizure and the arrest of two men. Authorities said the two suspects are not believed to be the masterminds behind the operation.

Arrests and investigation

Head of Ykan Christos Andreou said on Friday that the suspects, aged 34 and 26, were arrested after an operation that began days earlier following a tipoff. Andreou told the Cyprus News Agency that investigations are ongoing and that further arrests have not been ruled out.

Items seized in Strovolos raid

During Thursday’s raid of a house in Strovolos, police found 233.5kg of cannabis and cocaine, along with 11,640 firecrackers, three pistols, two handmade bombs, more than 30 bullets, and around €13,500 in cash.

Origin and destination of drugs under review

Andreou said the firearms will be examined to determine whether they have been used in criminal actions in the past. He added that it was not known where the drugs had been sent from, and that investigations were continuing to determine where they came from, who brought them and where they were destined for.

Court proceedings

The two suspects are currently in court, where a remand order against them is expected to be issued.
