Nicosia, Cyprus. The Cyprus ports authority on Friday announced a tender for consulting services related to the planned €350 million expansion of Vasiliko port in Mari. The authority said the announcement marks an essential step in a project aimed at upgrading Cyprus’ port infrastructure and strengthening energy, commercial and economic activity.
Tender details
The tender covers consulting services for front-end engineering design, detailed design and supervision of phase A construction works for the port expansion.
The authority said Vasiliko port is moving into the next phase of development and that it is investing in modern, strategic and sustainable port infrastructure.
The tender notice has been published on the Republic of Cyprus’ official online public procurement platform, eProcurement, according to the ports authority.
Expansion plans
The transport ministry announced plans for the port expansion in early 2025. The proposed works include nine new berths, breakwaters, a deepened approach channel and enhanced land use in the surrounding port area.
The project is intended to serve as a core infrastructure hub for Cyprus and the wider region, connecting commercial, energy, military and environmental operations.
Funding and capacity
Upon completion, the port is expected to handle about five vessels per day, or around 1,770 ships annually.
The modernisation project is set to receive a total of €18,781,957 in funding under the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility programme, with the first phase budgeted at €85 million.
